Tereza Salgueiro was born in Lisboa on January 8th 1969. In 1986, with just 17 years old, she forms the most famous and international Portuguese act – Madredeus. In parallel with the group’s activity, Tereza releases “Obrigado” (2006) – a compilation of various encounters with international artistes such as José Carreras, Jacques Morellembaum, Coba, Caetano Veloso, etc.

In early 2007 she records and releases 2 solo albums which explore her versatility as an interpreter: “Você e Eu” with the João Cristal Septet, recorded in São Paulo, which visits songs of Brazilian music from the decades of 30’s to the 70’s in the XXth century and “La Serena” with Lusitânia Ensemble, which focus itself in the interpretation of songs of different cultures and ages.
By invitation of Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner, internationally acclaimed for his musical pieces in Krzysztof Kieslowski films, she records as main soloist voice, the album “Silence, Night and Dreams”. On June 30th 2008, Tereza Salgueiro presented, with Solis String Quartet, in the famous Teatro de S. Carlo in Naples, Italy, a concert that evokes the ancient legacy of the fantastic Neapolitan Songs.

Already as an independent artist, without the structure of her former group, Tereza Salgueiro invites violinist Jorge Varrecoso Gonçalves to write original arrangements and 2009 watches as MATRIZ is born – a course throughout the work of different Portuguese authors and composers, from the Medieval times to the 70s, searching to represent and celebrate the richness, diversity and longevity of the Portuguese Musical and Poetic Culture.
